Air interface

The “air interface” is a term that refers to the specification of the radio transmission between the transmitter and the receiver. The term is mainly used in mobile communications.

The air interface defines:

  • the frequency arrangement,
    • center frequencies,
    • bandwidth of the radio channels,
    • pairing of frequencies (duplex distance);
  • the modulation method,
  • the multiple access scheme.
and other quantities used by the radio technology.
