A channel is a general term used to describe a communications path between two systems. They may be either physical or logical depending on the application. The discrete frequency ranges ( RF channel) used by a base station to transmit and receive information from mobile terminals is a physical channel. Whereas control and traffic channels within this RF channel would be considered logical channels.
