Flash-OFDM

Nederlands

Flash-OFDM (Fast Low Latency Access with Seamless Handoff - OFDM) is a proprietary technology from Flarion for mobile broadband datacommunications. Flash-OFDM is completely based on IP over a packet-switched network. Speech services are only possible with Voice over IP.

Flash-OFDM is mainly targeting at wireless internet access with a PC and a suitable modem. Flash-OFDM claims to be more efficiëent than UMTS. The basestation supporting the Flash-OFDM technology is called a RadioRouter.

The key characteristics of Flash-OFDM are:

  • Optimized for packet-switched data;
  • Completely based on IP;
  • Low latency in the network;
  • Support of user mobility,
    maximum speed of the user is around 250 km/h.
  • Maximum bit rate 3,2 Mbit/s
    On average 1,5 Mbit/s (downlink) / 300-500 kbit/s (uplink) per user;
  • Radio channel width: 1,25 MHz;
  • Frequency usage: 2 × 1,25 MHz to 5 MHz for network deployment,
    Frequency Division Duplex;
  • Based on OFDM;
  • Frequency hopping;
  • Robust for multipath fading.

Flash OFDM can operate in a number of frequency bands ranging from 450 MHz to 3,5 GHz, including the IMT2000/UMTS 2 GHz bands.
